Q355B is a low-alloy high-strength structural steel under China's GB/T 1591-2018 standard, equivalent to Europe's S355JR or ASTM A572 Gr50. It features a minimum yield strength of 355 MPa and tensile strength ranging from 470 to 630 MPa, with excellent weldability and impact toughness (at least 34J at -20C). This steel is widely used in construction (e.g., buildings, bridges), heavy machinery, vehicle manufacturing, pressure vessels, and shipbuilding due to its balanced strength and cost-effectiveness. Compared to Q235 steel, Q355B offers higher load-bearing capacity while maintaining good formability. Its production follows multiple standards including GB/T 1591-2018 for basic requirements, YB/T 4137-2013 for fire-resistant variants, and GB/T 5313-2010 for thickness-direction performance specifications. The chemical composition typically includes controlled amounts of carbon, manganese, silicon, along with microalloying elements like niobium or vanadium for enhanced strength. Available in hot-rolled plates, sections, and bars, Q355B has become a mainstream material for structural applications in China, replacing the older Q345 grade after the 2018 standard update.
