Urolithin A (UA) is a natural compound generated in the human body subsequent to the consumption of ellagitannin - rich foods, such as specific fruits and nuts. Ellagitannins, which are polyphenolic compounds, can be found in pomegranates, strawberries, raspberries, and walnuts, among other foods. Once these foods are ingested, gut bacteria metabolize the ellagitannins, resulting in the production of urolithins, with Urolithin A being one of them.
