Please also provide relevant quality certificates, Certificate of Analysis, export documentation, payment terms, and other commercial conditions.
Palm kernel shell, commonly abbreviated as PKS, is a hard fibrous material obtained as a byproduct of palm oil production after the palm kernel is separated from the shell. It is commonly used as a solid biomass fuel because of its relatively high calorific value and low moisture after proper drying. PKS is supplied mainly in loose bulk form or bags for industrial and commercial applications.
Common types include whole palm kernel shells, crushed PKS, screened PKS, and graded PKS based on particle size. Products can also be classified according to moisture content, ash content, calorific value, and the amount of residual kernel or other foreign material. Particle size can vary depending on processing and buyer requirements.
Palm kernel shell is produced mainly in palm oil producing regions, particularly Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Nigeria, Ghana, Colombia, Ecuador, and other tropical areas with established palm processing industries. The shells are collected during palm kernel processing, separated from the kernels, cleaned, dried when necessary, and screened or crushed for specific applications.
Examples of companies involved in palm oil and palm kernel processing include Wilmar International, Sime Darby Plantation, IOI Corporation, Golden Agri Resources, and Musim Mas. Availability and specifications can vary between mills because PKS is a biomass byproduct rather than a standardized manufactured fuel.
Typical specifications include moisture content, ash content, gross or net calorific value, bulk density, particle size, volatile matter, fixed carbon, sulfur, chlorine, and foreign matter. Moisture commonly ranges around 10 to 20 percent, while calorific value can be approximately 3,500 to 4,500 kcal/kg depending on origin and condition. Buyers should request laboratory test results for the specific shipment.
PKS is commonly supplied in bulk, jumbo bags, woven polypropylene bags, or other suitable packaging. Bulk shipments can be loaded directly into containers or vessels, while bagged material can be palletized or loaded without pallets depending on buyer requirements. Storage should be dry and well ventilated to reduce moisture absorption and prevent deterioration.
Palm kernel shell is transported mainly by sea in containers or bulk vessels and by truck for inland deliveries. It is used as biomass fuel in boilers, power plants, industrial furnaces, cement production, and other thermal energy applications. Buyers generally specify monthly quantity, moisture, calorific value, ash, particle size, packaging, loading method, origin, inspection requirements, and delivery terms.
