Erode turmeric is one of the most exported varieties of turmeric in India. Salem turmeric received a Geographical Indication (GI) tag in 2019, which means that it has a unique quality and reputation due to its origin. Rajapore and Sangli varieties come from Maharashtra and are also popular for export. They have a deep-orange colour and a strong aroma. Rajapore turmeric is preferred for making curry powder, while Sangli turmeric is often used for medicinal purposes. Sangli turmeric also received a GI tag in 2018
