Product details

PET Laser Marking Masterbatch is a specialized additive concentrate designed to enable high-contrast, permanent markings on Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) products using a laser beam. Without it, PET is generally difficult to mark with lasers because it tends to carbonize poorly and produces low-contrast, faint marks. The masterbatch contains sensitive additives that react dramatically to the laser's energy, creating a clear, precise, and durable mark on the PET substrate. How Does It Work? The process is based on a chemical reaction triggered by the laser's heat: Energy Absorption: The additives within the masterbatch (e.g., metal oxides) are highly absorbent of the specific wavelength of the laser (commonly fiber lasers at 1064 nm). Localized Reaction: The concentrated laser energy heats these particles extremely rapidly in a very localized area. Contrast Creation: This intense heat causes one of two reactions in the plastic matrix surrounding the additive particles: Foaming (Light Mark): The heat causes a micro-scale foaming, creating a light-colored (usually white or light grey) mark on a darker background. Carbonization/Engraving (Dark Mark): The heat carbonizes the polymer or slightly engraves the surface, creating a dark mark (black or dark grey) on a lighter background. The result is a high-contrast, permanent mark that won't fade, smear, or wear off like printed inks.
