Tzalam is sometimes referred to as Caribbean walnut, though it is not closely related to true walnuts in the genus Juglans. In appearance, Tzalam can closely resemble Koa, which may account for its somewhat obscure and oddly spelled common name. Scientific name: Lysiloma latisiliquum. Color: medium to dark brown with golden hues. Hardness: medium to high, Janka - 1880 lbf. Common uses: flooring, decking, furniture.
